Freshly painted EL Zorro S302 stabled in the siding at Diapur with a ballast plough, a rake of hoppers and GM36 - Fri.21.8.09.

After being swapped from broad to standard gauge earlier in the week, the first assignment for the freshly painted EL Zorro S302 was ballast duties in the west of the state, seen here stabled in the siding at Diapur with a ballast plough, a rake of loaded ballast hoppers and GM36 on the afternoon of Fri.21.8.09.

The latest motive power combination on the Western line ballasting program - S311 in CFCLA colours and in the background, T386 in El Zorro's modified V/Line colours. This scene was captured on the afternoon of Tues.28.7 at Miram, between Kaniva and Nhill.


After ballasting in the Miram to Diapur section in push pull mode (4836 on the west end and C501 on the east), the locos have been remarshalled at the up end of Leeor Loop and the train is awaiting passage through a work site at the down end of the loop on their way back to Callington at midday on Tues.30.3.

Locomotives 4836 and C501 are hire to El Zorro for their ballast trains from Callington in South Australia to Western Victoria.
